Eagle River Nature Center

Today when I was done with work at 4:00pm I went out to the Eagle River Nature Center to go for a hike.

This was the first time I had been to the nature center and I was impressed. I bought a season pass because if I go 8 times it will be more cost effective and I plan to. I am told that in the winter months the Nature center is the best place to go hiking and cross country skiing since it is relatively flat and kept up really well.

I found many plants, some marked others not. My personal favorite are the blue bells as pictured below. I see them everywhere and they literally look like little blue bells.
The Common Blue Bell

Devils Club-it has a particularly spiky stem.
The view from the Eagle River Nature Center is STUNNING, as with the rest of Alaska. Right out the back patio of the nature center I captured the picture below. I'm not sure what mountain it is or even what mountain range, but the clouds covered the peaks so I could not quite view the top point.

There was a stream that runs at the bottom, where the melting mountain snow runs into. The water is very cold, and also very clear. The stream is home to several otters, as well as a beaver looking thing.
I can't wait to go back. The drive to the Nature Center is one with a very narrow, and winding road, but it is worth the trip.

  1. Gotta watch out for that Devil's Club though! Some people are allergic and can get a rash from the spiny stem and/or the milky sap it has!

Glad to see you enjoying ER!! :)
