Anti Valentines Day NOT Anti-Love

Yesterday was Valentines Day. Now I'm not one to be all anti-festive but of all the holidays there are Valentines Day is the one that I dislike the most. It's not because one should not cherish those they love, but it bothers me that the needs to be a commercialized holiday to make people feel obligated to buy gifts for others and celebrate.  I think that the idea of Valentines Day should be a year long celebration. I don't mean that everyday of the year chocolates, and pink cards are needed, I just mean that one should appreciate the special people they know and love each day.

I searched online in Google and there were five million websites and pages for the anti-valentines. Why are there so many? Well the answer's pretty obvious isn't it. They (and maybe you too) have seen through the tacky commercialism, they have realized their value isn't measured by whether they get a card from a secret admirer or not. Being Anti-Valentines Day isn't being Anti-Love; in fact it's the opposite. It seems that people want to protect true love from being cheapened by chocolates and cheesy cards. It's like people are realizing that 'selling love' is out of order.

'This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.' 1 John 3:16

In his letters the Apostle John shares loads about love, he had a special revelation about the way it flows directly from God's heart to ours, '...God is love...' he wrote (1 John 4:16) , going on to add 'Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him' and underlining that 'We love because he first loved us.'

So today, feel free to be Anti-Valentines Day, but don't ever be Anti-Love.

The Campus Ministry Center (CMC) is always hopping and whenever i'm having a bad day I can find friends, silliness, and rejuvenation in a stress free environment.

New Beginnings

I decided to try something new, blogging that is. Many exciting things will be happening in the next few years of my life and I decided the best way to keep friends and family up to speed is through blogging. The title of the blog is "A Servant's Journey" portraying the fact that I am a servant of Christ on a journey for Him. This journey takes me places I never thought possible and has challenged, stretched and continues to mold me into who Christ wants me to be. I will try to update often so continue to check back for snippets of my life throughout the day.
