Friday

Yesterday there was no school for the students in Anchorage School District since it was the end of the first quarter of school. The high school youth came in at noon to set-up for the annual silent auction.

Up and in!

At noon the youth gathered and there was pizza. After that we set out all the donated silent auction items and had to price them. The boys then went downstairs to help load the remaining stuff from the youth room ie: the HUGE television set. The boys were troopers and all helped to lift it onto the pick-up truck. We also hauled out glass from a shower that used to be in the LWML room, and some old chairs, and a refrigerator. Needless to say the youth room is now claimed back as the “Youth Room” not dumping grounds. Hooray!

After the silent auction set, I had a lovely day of cleaning. I swept the youth room and even washed the stinky, mold filled garbage cans. It’s dirty work but we are taking back the youth room.

After work I had the privilege to babysit three of the cutest kids. It was a babysitting/guitar lesson combo. The two oldest kids are two of my star students for church guitar lessons. At age 9, and 10 they both have exceled and learned 3 guitar chords in two weeks. These guys will be jamming out in no time. While I was having a lesson with Nathan, the oldest, his younger brother Jacob wanted to learn too. It’s hard to teach a five year old to play guitar because his hand is not quite big enough but I did teach him how to change the sounds of one string by sliding his finger up and down. He thought that was fun.

Give him a few years, he'll be the next B.B. King
I also was placed in a Wii challenge. I have played Wii only a handful of times and lost at just about every game. They thought it was fun to beat the DCE intern and it was fun for me to try my hardest and still lose to three kids under the age of 10.
